The Dubai Economic Council (DEC) has recently been awarded the ISO 9001-2008 certificate from Lloyd's Register EMEA, the Group is one of the world leaders in assessing business processes and products to internationally recognized standards.
Hani Al Hamli: “ISO certificate will help enhancing the advisory role of the DEC”
The announcement was made in the presence of Mr. Basem Obaid, Area General Manager of Lloyd's Register, during the a meeting held by the Secretariat General of DEC. HE Hani Al Hamli Secretary-General of DEC said the Council’s ISO achievement confirms the success of ambitious plans developed by Council and in line with international best practices aimed at strengthening the process of economic decision-making. In this context, Al Hamli said we aim to develop the council’s performance and improve the quality of the services provided to the officials concerned within the framework of its mandates and strategic objectives.
“Achieving the ISO 9001:2008 is evidence of the council’s commitment of incorporating quality management system and making sure they meet international standards” Al Hamli said. He also stressed that the vision and mission of the council, supported by the Chairman, His Excellency Juma Al Majid has provided the framework for the council’s continual achievement and success.
Al Hamli praised HH Sheikha Mona Al Moalla, Chief Operating Officer, Strategic Planning & Operations of the DEC for her dedication and directives to the team concerned to meet the requirements of ISO certification hence leveraging the standard of all operations.

Sheikha Mona Al Moalla stated that the DEC is committed to complying with requirements of the quality management system to ensure that it meets the requirements of international standard ISO 9001:2008, in order to achieve continual improvement in processes. “The certification follows a thorough auditing and validation process and will see the company regularly continue to comply with quality monitoring processes. ISO 9001:2008 accreditation guarantees optimum quality assurance and control to the Council’s stakeholders” Sheikha Mona added.
The DEC’s concept was designed to accommodate and achieve Dubai Government’s vision in consolidating the business community’s role in enhancing sustainable economic development process in Dubai and the UAE. “This will be expedited by ensuring that best practices in sustainability as well as quality management systems are implemented in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the council’s operations” Sheikha Mona said. The council has implemented well established management practices across the organization and in this endeavor has successfully obtained relevant certification such as the ISO 9001:2008.
The ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
