The DEC supports the "Smart Government’" initiative

Sheikha Mona Abdulla Al Moalla, DEC Chief Operating Officer, Strategic Planning & Operations at the DEC stated that ‘Smart Government’ initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai is a pioneering experiment in the region and worldwide. She also said that The DEC is looking to convert all its operational plans and corporate communications with its members, staff and strategic partners and have its publications distributed in smart means” 

Sheikha Mona Al Moalla also said the concept of "Smart City" and "smart government" is critical for the present and future of the UAE economy, the local and Federal departments compete in quality of their public services those provided by the private sector. She added that the public services become more competitive even compared to their counterparts in the developed countries. “ Thanks to their management strategies which basically reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the governance of public institutions, in addition to their handling with the latest technology in various administrative and operational tasks to the extent that ensure the provision of better services to the community” Al Moalla stressed.  

Shk. Mona also pointed out that the ultimate aim of ‘smart government’ initiative goes beyond the limits of efficiency to touch the well-being and happiness of society. 

Comprehensive plan for the transition to a "Smart Council" 

In this context, according to Shk. Mona Al Moalla, the DEC Secretariat Senior Management is moving forward towards the conversion of all its operations, especially with regard to corporate communications with various government agencies and strategic partners from the Centers for Economic Policy Research, world consultancy offices, strategic studies centers, beside the local business community through the application of the smart technologies. 

E-Books
The DEC has two of its notable books ‘Fiscal Reforms in the Middle East’ and ‘The Currency Union & Exchange Rate Issues’ available as e-books on the publisher website, Edward Elgar (EE). 
 
Shk. Mona added that to achieve this goal, the Strategic Planning and Operations is currently conducting awareness programs periodically aiming at raising the awareness of the DEC staff about vitality of the of "Smart government" concept and how to implement it in practice. It aims to utilize latest smart technology in telecommunications by giving access to its services through smartphones and digital technologies, in addition to DEC intellectual products and research such as the books, reports and periodicals.

Rewarding Smart Ideas
Shk. Mona Al Moalla revealed that in terms of DEC bid to allow the staff to propose means and mechanisms for the use of smart technology to shift to a smart council, the DEC Senior Management plans to reward employees who propose innovative ideas and initiatives in this area.
